Well then… I won’t pretend like I saw any of this movie playing out the way that it did. With that being said, I thought Parasite was awesome and an absolute must-see. The movie quite literally had me on the edge of my seat from middle to end, and it’s not so shocking that the film won Best Picture at the 2020 Academy Awards.

The film tells the story of the Kim family, a poor or at least less fortunate South Korean family that find themselves in the company of some Crazy Rich Asians if you will. Mrs. Kim works as a house maid for the very wealthy and extremely snobby Park family, who live are a very lavish lifestyle and are not afraid of showing it.

Before you even consider watching this movie I would like to highlight the fact that it is entirely in Korean. So unless you speak the language, I would suggest you be prepared for a lot of subtitles. I thought I was going to hate it initially for this reason because I’m not big on closed captioning, but it felt more natural with this movie.

The movie highlights the pitfalls and shortcomings of foreign policy in Korea and the class inequality that exists. I won’t pretend like I’m well educated on the subject because I’m definitely not, but this movie sparked my interest on the subject. That’s one of the great thing about movies!

Overall Parasite was a solid film, and I suggest it to anyone that is a movie fan. This one was really unlike any movie I’ve ever seen before and it really threw me for a loop in a good way. It’s not totally surprising that the movie received rave reviews at Cannes Film Festival where it premiered in early 2020.

The film walked away with 4 Oscars on 7 nominations, which included wins for Best Picture, Best Original Screen Play, Best Director, and Best International Feature Film. Overall, I’m giving Parasite 7 out of 10 🍌’s!
